Embracing Change and Leadership: Insights from the NAWIC Pink Ribbon Breakfast

I had the privilege of attending the National Association of Women in Construction NZ – NAWIC (National Association of Women in Construction) Pink Ribbon Breakfast in Parnell at the stunning Kada Showroom. This event, bringing together a multitude of professionals, promotes networking and fosters a sense of community, all while raising funds for the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation. The NAWIC is an inspiring platform for professional women to unite, share experiences, and collaborate on new ideas.

Among the numerous accomplished attendees, my former colleague, Brenda James and the author of “Believe,” which focuses on the importance of self-belief in leadership roles, I can’t wait to get stuck into it. Currently, Brenda is the brain behind “Leadership Reboot,” a transformative initiative designed to reshape and redefine our understanding of effective leadership.

Brenda’s speech was a treasure trove of insights about personal growth, leadership, and the remarkable power of our brains. She delved into the fascinating concept of neuroplasticity, explaining how our brains are capable of restructuring themselves and forming new neural connections throughout life. This cognitive flexibility allows us to learn, adapt, and most importantly, change our ingrained behaviours.

One of the key takeaways from Brenda’s talk was the idea that it takes 66 repetitions for a new behaviour to become a habit. This concept, although challenging, is a testament to the potential within us all to foster positive change. It reiterates the importance of consistency, persistence, and patience in our journey of personal and professional growth.

My experience at the NAWIC Pink Ribbon Breakfast was not only educational, but it was also incredibly empowering. I had the opportunity to network with many ambitious, successful women, each with her own unique story and perspective. As a business owner, in Recruitment, these interactions were invaluable, providing me with fresh insights into my industry and meeting new connections.

The experience left me feeling rejuvenated and inspired, ready to apply the insights and lessons I learned to my own business practices and also into my personal life.

It was a great platform for learning, networking, and contributing to a noble cause. As we collectively strive to grow and succeed, let us remember to also empower and uplift those around us.

To all the amazing women I met, thank you for sharing your stories and adding to my morning’s inspiration. Let’s continue to support each other, and together, we can pave the way for a more inclusive, dynamic future.
