Taking the Stress Out of Job Hunting

Looking for a job is a full time-job and can be draining in itself but there are things you can do that make it easier.

Physical and mental wellbeing

Look after you and ensure you’re getting enough sleep, are eating well, exercising regularly and getting enough vitamin C.

If your current job is stressing you out and you’re in a negative head space, try hard to work on this before going to any interviews. Try to put all that to the side so you come across as your best self to interviewers.

CV

Update your CV with your most recent job and ensure it fully captures each of your jobs over the last 10 years.

If you are early in your career ensure you add all the sports and extra curriculum activities that you have been involved with.

Your CV needs to be clear and easy to read and doesn’t need to be fancy. Make sure the font is not too small.

There’s no need to include your referees but do keep in touch with them periodically. Prior to giving a potential employer or your recruiter your referees’ details, make a courtesy call to them to ensure they are still happy to be a referee. This also gives them time to think about you so when the person calls for a reference check they are not caught unawares.

LinkedIn

Recruiters will check out your LinkedIn profile so update yours and make it obvious in the headline what your background is and what you’re looking for. Be sure to include keywords and you will come in more searches by recruiters.

Other ways you can be more attractive to recruiters are:

💠 Add your phone number and personal email in the Contact info section.

💠 Have a professional-quality photo, in which you are looking straight into the camera and smiling.

💠 List your specific duties so the recruiter can see the alignment between what you do and what they are looking for.

💠 There are many segments to LinkedIn profiles and you may find the free e-book @Lynnaire offers helpful. And if updating your profile is not something you feel comfortable doing, use a LinkedIn professional like Lynnaire.
